Bob was always working the camp stoves and then getting sleepy as we made the trip home from the site in Golden Gate canyon State Park. He never tired of those cold mornings where we cooked several pots of Scout Soup for the Camporee Cub Scouts.

I believe I first met Bob at the 1994 Webelos Weekend. He, being a getter' done type, asked if I were involved in any of the activities, and finding out
I was new to the weekend, soon had me involved in fire building and knot tying as a helper.
He was always like that with me, finding out I had hidden mechanical
and electronics/electrical repair talents, which he put to use. He had great faith that I would not make any unneeded smoke tests on the projects he came up with.
He had me fix some leaks on the old Dodge supervan which many of the Scouters and scouts will remember as having the electric eclectic paint job, and its' ability to do a standing wheelie if one were to overload it beyond it's capacity! And he commented afterward that the Dodge had never went without an oil or fluid leak until I got my hands on it. He said I would have made a good plumber. That is standing high praise from a guy who could bump his head under a kitchen sink better than myself.
He asked once whether I needed some woodworking done, and thereafter we traded services.
He found out that I had an interest in the submarines he served on, and regaled me with some 'on the boat' and
Hawaiian port on shore leave activities, adding tales about the psychology involved in being a Submariner.
He gave me a paperback book called "Escape from the Deep" which detailed the true story of the deadliest submarine of World War 2.
The U.S.S Tang.
Once,when my wife,Kris Brooks, called
from Webelos Weekend, requesting an urgent run
of registration paperwork from Arvada to Tahosa,
I took my old pickup and a manila envelope straight away up to the camp. Bob was waiting there, talking to the Ranger by his cabin.
He walked up to me to see how he could help, and Thea McAdam was quick stepping it down the hill
to meet me for the handoff. Anyone who knows her
knows she is diligent, yet has this pixie like sense of humor and a quick wit.
With Bob standing next to me, I chimed out aloud
"I'm looking for Amanda Hugginkiss, anybody know
a Amanda Hugginkiss?" , whereby she came up and gave me a great big hug, while Bob was still thinking
about who might be A Man to Hug and Kiss.
Thea had that glint in her eye and we both started
giggling, and it dawned on Bob that he had been had.
"A man to hug and kiss", ah! And he sort of rolled his eyes and said "YOU Guys!".
He got my dry humor.
He gave me a Good Turn coin at the Sunday
service, after setting down next to me and listening to my poor singing voice. He said he had never heard anyone sing Amazing Grace so poorly, and that surely
the Good Lord had spared the local wildlife from any harm and that it was a good thing others in the crowd
of worshipers had not acquired shell shock as they had drowned out my crowing with their voices.
I said Thanks for the coin and that I would endeavor to
sing in Braille thereafter.
He replied that he thought that was how the Titanic was sunk.
Another roll of the eyes and a big grin from Bob.
I have started to understand how many forms of
homelessness there are in this world, as I learned about how many times Bob moved in his blessed lifetime. He heard my story and my version of being homeless and moving so many times when I was young.
At the end of a busy day at his home, we had finished a daunting project together, with the help of his daughter, and my friend ,Robin.
Satisfied with the results, he commented about my
interests in a little of everything in life and said 'Well, you must have an I.Q of at least 12'. I said no, only I.Q. test I had taken, in eighth grade I nearly refused, as the school nurse wanted me to take a tuberculosis shot while I had the flu, and insisted I take the I.Q test
while sick, and the results were 70. Somewhere in the dunce range, as described by the school counselor afterwards. Bob does some quick averaging in his head and comes up with 41.
I think he must have promoted me to the ninth grade at that point.
We talked of our Faith in the Living God.
He was particularly concerned about a statement I made about being a nobody and a nothing to this world. It wasn't a knock on myself.
It has to do with this declaration by Jesus, the Son of God.
John 15:19
English Standard Version
"19: If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you."
To me, as a truck driver, who normally is the last guy
a customer might want to see, and is treated like a third class citizen, as I explained to Bob, is that
Jesus is my Lord and Saviour, and nothing in this world can take that away, and though I be a nothing to this world, Jesus is everything.
Bob looked at me and proclaimed " I believe in Jesus too".
He shared his family, including his cats, with Kris and I,
put his carpentry skills to use with a request from my son to be included on a rebuild of Silverplume,Colorado's one and only narrow gauge caboose, which is nearing completion, so his Legacy of Giving will be marked
on those narrow rails.
He gave to everyone in the Scouting Fraternity, as those who benefitted from his love, caring and generosity carry his Legacy forward.
A true Human and a True Scout.
Psalm 24
Of David. A psalm.
1 The earth is the Lord†™s, and everything in it,
the world, and all who live in it;
2 for he founded it on the seas
and established it on the waters.
3 Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord?
Who may stand in his holy place?
4 The one who has clean hands and a pure heart,
who does not trust in an idol
or swear by a false god.[a]
5 They will receive blessing from the Lord
and vindication from God their Savior.
6 Such is the generation of those who seek him,
who seek your face, God of Jacob.[b][c]
7 Lift up your heads, you gates;
be lifted up, you ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
8 Who is this King of glory?
The Lord strong and mighty,
the Lord mighty in battle.
9 Lift up your heads, you gates;
lift them up, you ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
10 Who is he, this King of glory?
The Lord Almighty†”
he is the King of glory.
Psalm 24
26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
To that end, Bob understood that to be created in
The Creator's Image, was to follow in Love, Loyalty, and Reverance.
To follow Jesus in his many examples of His Undying
Love for all of Mankind. To the very end of this short time we call life on this planet. And on to Everlasting
Life, unshackled by by human frailties.
He is now in the presence of the Living God,
and I believe the first thing he did was ask Jesus
where the best fishing hole in Heaven is located..

Bob was a great, fun, and clever guy. We enjoyed him so very much in Scouts. His warm smile and sense of humor will be missed. May he and his family be at peace. With sincere condolences, Libby Schultz
