Obituary of Joseph Frederick Murdock

Loving and beloved Husband, Father, Grandpa, Uncle, Brother, Teacher and Friend. Joseph Frederick Murdock, (Joe) was born in Tulsa,Oklahoma to parents Dennis and Helen Murdock. He lived in Tulsa until he graduated from high school. After high school he joined the United State Marine Corps to proudly serve his country. Upon receiving his Honorable Discharge, Joe continued his formal education, completing two Master†™s Degrees before starting his 26 year career with the local school district. He was first employed as a high school teacher for students with special needs. In his last several years he worked as a high school building technologist. Joe enjoyed his work, the students and the many friends he made while working in the school system. Joe was a good man who earned the respect of those who knew him. He was very close to his sons and their families as well as his wife. Together they enjoyed many activities, road trips and overseas travel. When his sons were young, most evenings would find the 3 of them playing football, basketball or baseball outside. During election seasons they could be involved volunteering for campaigns or other related activities. Joe and his sons enjoyed dressing up for Halloween…..Joe always as Batman, loved handing out the treats. As adults, his sons and wife were his best friends. In more recent years Joe enjoyed being †œPops† (grandpa) and playing with our granddaughter! In addition to work, family and friends, Joe enjoyed shooting skeet and hunting both elk and birds. A history buff, he enjoyed researching our ancestors and putting †œbooks† together for all the siblings, nieces and nephews for both of our families. We traveled to many countries in our retirement. Joe always planned our trips and managed to get us just where we wanted to be. We were very fortunate to have multiple trips to Ireland, Norway and Scotland to complete the research on both of our families. Joe was a smart, strong, kind and compassionate man. He will be missed by his family and many friends. Joe is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary, sons; Joe II (Anna + granddaughter Evelyn) and Jacob. Brothers Lowell and John as well as many nieces and nephews. **In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to a charity of your choice or, if you like, to a yearly educational scholarship in memory of Joe†™s cousin.
