Obituary of Joel Craig Guenther

JOEL CRAIG GUENTHER Joel Craig Guenther, born November 9, 1951 in Waterloo, IA, died of a heart attack on Saturday, June 11, 2022 in Littleton, Colorado. He grew up in Denver, Iowa. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point and then earned a masters degree from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. He taught communication and public speaking at CU - Boulder for 25 years. Joel then worked for the public affairs office for the United States Marine Corps in Albany, Georgia, for two years, followed by ten years with the Department of Interior as a writer/editor in Lakewood, Colorado before retiring in 2017. He married Claudia Park in August 1981. Joel enjoyed target shooting and making the perfect ammunition. He also enjoyed the birds we fed in the backyard, feeding "Stumpy" our tailless squirrel that stopped by at least once a day, tending his roses, and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald Guenther and Lorraine Moeller and brothers David and Jerry Guenther. Joel is survived by his wife Claudia, brothers Tom Guenther of Lincoln, Nebraska; Mark Guenther of Denver, Iowa; and John Guenther of Waterloo, Iowa. Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Genesis Presbyterian Church, 5707 South Simms Street in Littleton Colorado. It will be broadcast on You Tube, "genesischurchcolorado". No flowers please - if you want to give a memorial, please either do your own favorite charity or The Action Center.org in Lakewood, Colorado. Internment will be held later at Ft. Logan National Cemetery.
