Obituary of Karen Fischer

Karen Fischer, 81, passed away on March 22nd, 2022. A warm and loving mother and wife, who lived in Arvada, Colorado for the last 50 years. Born in Waterville, Kansas in 1940 to Pearl Edna Heidenreich and Luke Kistler, she was raised in Wood Lake, Nebraska with her brother, Keith. She retained her small town values throughout her life and those who knew her well, always regarded her as one of the nicest people they had ever met. Having a love for teaching and making the world a better place, she moved to Denver around 1968 to pursue a master's degree from the University of Northern Colorado in education. Shortly after arriving in Colorado, she married Dennis Hilyard, also from Nebraska. Her son, Darrin, was born in 1973 and younger brother, Kevin, in 1977. Karen worked in elementary schools in the Jefferson County School District until her retirement. After the death of Denny in 1990, she remarried in 1994 to Robert L. Fischer with whom she shared many happy experiences. In retirement she spent a great deal of time traveling and painting beautiful watercolors and birdhouses. Karen also treasured for grandchildren and spent as much time as possible with them. She was always a dedicated mother to her sons and lovingly supported them in all ways until her recent departure. She is survived by Darrin and Kevin along with Darrin's wife, Gretchen, and children, Vivian and Madeline.
