Richard Popp

Obituary of Richard H. Popp

Richard Henry Popp, son of Wolfe Bernard Popp and Sue Ellen (Crossley) Popp, was born in Denver, Colorado on November 5, 1932. He was Baptized and Confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Richard was joined together in holy matrimony to his beloved wife, Oleta (Sue) Bartels on June 11, 1955 at St. Peter†™s Lutheran Church, Elk Creek, NE. His interests were his faith, family, and farm. He also enjoyed many years of family camping and retreats at Lutheran Valley Ranch as his children were growing up. He worked for Mountain Bell and AT&T as a planning engineer. Richard thrived in the years of the Bethel Bible series under Pastor Wille, loved to walk and talk to his neighbors, and play with his dog Kenn. In these last years of his life, after he was diagnosed with Parkinson†™s, his son Dan became caregiver in the home. Richard†™s family gathered at his bedside the evening prior to his death. The Lord provided a wonderful time of fellowship with singing hymns, telling stories, and opportunities for one-on-one sharing with Dad, including grandchildren calling in. Dad enjoyed our presence in the room, responded as he could, and even said a short prayer. On May 20, 2022, at the age of 89 years, Richard fell asleep in Jesus. He is survived by Oleta, his loving wife, children Daniel Popp, Laurie (Rick) Folken, Timothy (Rebecca) Popp, Linda (Kevin) Grein, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as the whole Bartels family, whom he considered to be his siblings in Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson Joseph Grein. Memorials may be designated to: Lutheran Valley Retreat, PO Box 9042, Woodland Park, CO 80866
