David Walker

Obituary of David Mitchell Walker

David Walker was born in Beckley, WV, on September 8, 1946, and was one of eight children: Gene, Carl, Cora, June, Dena, Myrza, and Delessa. He is preceded in death by his parents, Florian and Pauline Walker, sisters Cora and Delessa, his father in-law and mother in-law, Dwane and Lola Quinn. He proudly served in the US Army from November 1965 to 1971, including the Vietnam War. He earned several honors during this time; The Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, The Vietnam Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal, The Vietnam Campaign Medal, The Air Medal, The Air Medal with Valor, and The Air Medal with 1500 Flight Hours. He met Gail Quinn in Colorado Springs while stationed at Ft. Carson and six weeks later they were married. They moved to Bloomington, IN for 2½ years, then returned to Colorado Springs for a short time. In 1974, the family moved to Golden, CO, and purchased their one-and-only home. David and Gail just recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary in September 2021. David was an amazing father to his two daughters, Amy and Suzanne. David did construction work for much of his younger years. He went to the Emily Griffith Trade School in Denver for shoe repair and opened D&G Cobbler Shop in Golden. He and Gail later became certified instructors for the Bob Ross painting method and spent many years traveling all over teaching classes. David was declared 100% disabled by the VA in 2003, thus allowing them to truly do what they wanted to most - spend their winter months traveling throughout warmer areas in their motorhome and making many new friends along the way. David treasured spending time with his family and friends. He loved camping, riding motorcycles, cooking, riding horses, playing cards, games, traveling, making new friends, reading his Bible, and spoiling his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Gail, daughters Amy (Rob) Underwood of Cheyenne, WY, and Suzanne (Chris) Kolin of Golden, CO. His grandchildren: Brenden (Kali) Kolin, Stefen Kolin, Megan Kolin, Cassy (Cole) Bostron, Jacob (Destiny) Underwood, Jim (Kale) Underwood, Brennan Underwood, and Liz Underwood; great-grandson Boe Walker Bostron. His brothers Carl (Nancy) Walker, Gene Walker, sisters June (Jack) Waddell, Dena (David) Mobley, Myrza (Steve) Drake. Gail†™s brothers Dale (Christine) Quinn, Frank (Diane) Quinn, her sisters Sandy (Ray) Joy, Betty (Larry) Kaufman, numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and even a few great-great nieces and nephews. The world won†™t be the same without him. He is forever in our hearts! Funeral services are at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at Faith Bible Chapel, 6250 Wright St, Arvada, CO.
