Obituary of Betty Burritt

Betty Burritt November 14, 1924 †" June 6, 2022 Betty Louise Goetze Burritt of Denver passed away Monday June 6, 2022 at the age of 97. Betty was born November 14, 1924 in her family†™s farmhouse in Mapleton, IL. She was the daughter of John Bernard and Minnie Elizabeth (Reichel) Goetze. She graduated from Timber Township County High School in 1942 and went to work for Caterpillar, Inc. When Betty was 20 years old, she entered the U. S Cadet Nurse Corp at Peoria Methodist Hospital, and became a Registered Nurse. Betty was married to Lewis E Burritt Jr in 1948. They lived and raised their family for many years in Northern Illinois. In 1971 they moved to the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain, Mandeville, Louisiana where they developed and operated a campground for nearly 10 years. In 1980 Betty moved to colorful Colorado to be near her daughters and grandson. She had a long career working in many different nursing areas, including hospital, nursing home, public health and private practice. She also served as the Camp Nurse for the YMCA summer camps held in Winter Park, Estes Park and Conifer. Upon retirement, Betty enjoyed many travels. She visited most states including Hawaii and Alaska (5 times). She visited Europe and in 1990 saw the Passion Play in Oberammergau Germany. For her 90th birthday she treated her family to a trip to Mexico where she parasailed, saw whales and fished. Betty†™s faith was extremely important to her and her life†™s motto was †œGiving is Living†�. She demonstrated this with her volunteer efforts with Pilot International, Colorado Symphony Guild, Senior Support Services, Warm Hearts-Warm Babies, and many more organizations. In addition to her volunteer efforts, she loved the Denver Broncos, playing hand bells at her church, playing bridge, beating everyone at Scrabble, fishing, sewing and doing crafts. Betty loved her family immensely and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Jean Fisher and Dolores Laird; and brother Bernard Goetze; her daughter Lori Burritt and son Greg Burritt. Surviving Betty are her daughters Darcy Bertles (Bill); and Suzi Brownlee (Scott); her two grandsons Bryan Oliver and Trevor Brownlee and great grandson Chase Oliver; her brother Duane Goetze of Mapleton, IL; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
