Tommy “Tom” Carrol Cunningham passed peacefully in his sleep on August 19th at age 80.
Tom was born on Nov 20, 1941 on the family farm near De Kalb, TX. He was preceded in death by his wife Peggy Cunningham (née Dugger), granddaughter Chloe Cunningham, and parents Johnny and Bessie Cunningham. He is survived by son John Cunningham and wife Devin, daughter Julie Brockway and husband Joe, sister Paula McMillian, and grandsons Sean Cunningham, Ryen Mudadi, and Derek Cunningham.
Growing up, Tom worked on the family farm and later in the west Texas oil fields. After graduating from Odessa High School in 1959 he played football at Sul Ross State University before transferring to McMurry College. In 1961 Tom married his high school sweetheart Peggy Dugger. Tom then obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from West Texas State College and spent his career working in various finance positions while residing in Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, before retiring to Westminster, Colorado. Tom & Peg’s love of travel took them all over the world in their 53 years of marriage visiting multiple countries in Europe, Africa, and Asia as well as their annual trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
Tom was a long-time active member and Deacon and Trustee of Riverside Church in Denver, Colorado. In addition to travel, he enjoyed cooking, spicy food, watching sports, gardening, his grandkids and his beloved dog Rosie. He was a fixture at every sporting, school, and life event of his grandchildren. Riverside Church in Denver will host his Memorial Service and Celebration of Life on Saturday Aug 27th at 11:00 am. Lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers, Tom requested donations be made to Chloe House Orphanage (www.chloeorphans.com/donation), an Indonesian orphanage which he helped found and support to honor his granddaughter, Chloe.
