Dwight Sickler

Obituary of Dwight Niel Sickler

It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved husband and best friend of 43 years, Dwight Niel Sickler. Dwight went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 14, 2023. He was 75. Dwight is survived by his brother, Dave Sickler, Carmel Valley, CA, and sisters, Debbie Alkarid of Aravada, CO, and Danette Jaidinger, Wheatridge, CO, and their families as well as in-laws and a host of friends. Dwight was preceded in death by his brother Danny Sickler and parents Smiles “Kitty” and Albert “Shorty” Sickler.

Dwight was born on December 19, 1947, in Lakewood, CO and raised in the Golden area. He graduated from Lakewood High School in 1965 and went on to serve in the Viet Nam War as a helicopter electrician. He once shared that each time a helicopter was repaired, he would be the first to fly in it to ensure it was quality-safe. After Viet Nam, Dwight worked “odd ball” jobs until he was hired at Coors Brewery in 1970 until going on strike in 1977. While at Coors Brewery, he met his future wife Sherry, and they married on January 19, 1980. Following his job with Coors, Dwight worked for Robinson Brick as a truck driver, and while there he was a shop steward. He entered the tech field in 1979 and worked with several companies as a telecommunications engineer. He finished his engineering career with MSN Communications and retired in 2009.

Dwight was happiest when he was riding his favorite horses, Jim and Duke. One of his most memorable activities was participating in obstacle competitions on Duke and Trooper. He loved the out-of-doors and spent many a day puttering in the barn. Additionally, he loved to hunt and fish, camp and travel with Sherry. Dwight loved being with his “FUR” children, too many to list and also loved being with family. He and Sherry celebrated many birthdays and Christmases in Palm Springs with his brother Dave and wife Carole.

Dwight’s Celebration of Life Service will be held at Aspen Mortuaries – Lakewood, 1350 Simms St., Lakewood, on March 9, at 10:30 a.m. He will be interred with full military honors at Ft. Logan National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Dumb Friends League - Harmony Equine Center, 5540 E. Hwy 86, Franktown, CO  80104.
