Obituary of Donna Rae (Grassmyer) Wineland

Donna passed away while in hospice  care Friday morning, March 24, 2023 at the age of 87 years old.

She was born August 6, 1935 in Roswell, South Dakota. At a young age, her family moved to LaPorte, Indiana where she grew up with an older sister and two younger brothers, many cousins, and some of her dearest friends! 

Donna married Richard Irey Wineland July 20, 1957 and started their family in Auburn, Indiana. By 1962 they moved to Golden, Colorado following family and employment, with their young son and daughter. In the following years they had two more sons. Their tiny home was filled with love!

Donna worked in education as a Title One Professional and School Staff Support for approximately 22 years.  She also taught Sunday School at Faith Lutheran Church for several years. Her love of children was deep!

Donna and Richard celebrated 65 years of marriage just before he passed July 27, 2022.

She cherished her entire family and all her friends from throughout the years. Her kindness and concern was for everyone!

Donna enjoyed working in her yard and garden, sewing, ringing handbells for 35 years, her quilt group,  the mountains, being with family and friends, and solving puzzles. She was funny and quick witted, and a very hard worker taking care of her husband, family, and home!

Donna was proceeded in death by her parents Ray and Ruth, brother Dick, sister Ruthie, son Steven, grandson Jacob, and husband Richard.

She is survived by her brother Dale, son Sam (Mitzi), daughter Tammy (Greg), son Matt (Danna), grandchildren Drew (Kayla), Keith (Baillie), Kyle, Ashley (Derek), Dylan, Brook, Tera, Tanner, and four great-grandchildren Carter, Bristol, Bellamy, and Lucas.

Her Memorial Service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church later this Spring. Any donations can be made in Donna's honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

We miss Donna immensely!
